September 17th 1939 It was a hot and humid summer day and we had limited water supply in the ghetto. We usually used the little water that we got to cook with and drink. I had not showered in 2 weeks. Then one morning a Nazi police officer came to my one bedroom apartment where my family of 5 was staying and dragged me and my 16 year old son out. We were taken to a bathing stall which seemed to have many shower heads. We were separated in two bathes, My son and i were in the second batch. 5 minutes after the first back proceeded into what seemed like a shower cubical i noticed something was wrong. All movement had stopped and the people inside the translucent cubicles were falling to the ground one by one. October 24th 1938 It was 12 in the afternoon, i was jobless and broke, i hadn’t eaten in 2 whole days. I decided to go take a walk around the ghetto. I saw many more people walking around who looked just like me, skinny, malnourished and in desperate search for food. I was wandering around for around 20 minutes now and in those 20 minutes at least 15 strangers came up to me and asked if i had any food to sell. Rumor had it that we were all going to be taken to death camps where all jews would be executed. This created immense tension and anxiety among us jews. While walking i suddenly saw a fight in a distance, i initially thought it was between a Nazi police officer and a jew but as i approached closer i saw it was between a little boy and an elderly man fighting for a box of rice!
